Livre E-Book is Awesome, Literacy Rejoyces

Designed by Nedzad Mujcinovic of Monash University, the Livre e-book design is a product that seems to go head-to-head with Amazon’s Kindle mobile book device. While missing the robust online resources and broad library of material, the Livre offers more in the way of style and form where it may lack in function. Featuring a touchscreen on top of an electronic paper (eINK) display, the Livre is designed to mimic a book more than the Kindle. The major selling point of the device is it’s multi-touch interface. Pages are turned by placing one finger on a corner, and sliding it toward the middle (much like turning a page in a book). Using two fingers when sliding across the page will advance 10 pages, three fingers will advance 50. Material can be uploaded either via USB or through a bluetooth enabled device. The device also features a “traditional stitched leather cover brings the feel, tactility and smell of old style books”. Despite being a touch-friendly device (and I am a fan of touching), this is something that I just can’t seem to get excited about. After all, everyone know that reading is for nerds. That’s right, all you nerds out there reading this, I’m calling you nerds. So do yourself a favor and stop reading this, and look at the pretty pictures after the jump… nerd.

    So, it’s awfully hard to google a word that is as common as “book” is in English (which is what ‘livre’ is in French), so I can’t find much more information on this product aside from the award page:

    (not sure if html is enabled in these comments)

    So where and how did you find this yourselves, Mr. Ubiquitously Faceless Swongled Writer? Is there a site for more information on this site, or is it not a real product? Because unlike you, I have an insatiable LUST for this product, and would like to give its maker my money in exchange for one. Bluetooth enabled, leather-bound book-shaped e-ink-screen ebook reader? I rarely use my 12″ PowerBook G4 for more than simple web browsing, document composing and *gasp* book reading, so leaving it at home in lieu of this beauty of a product would be AMAZINGGGGG

    pls pls pls don’t let this be just a concept ;_;

  4. I agree it has a sleeker and more elegant design than the Kindle, but without the always on wireless connectivity and AMazon’s vast selection of books, it’s probably destined to be a niche product. (Unless Amazon chooses to adopt it as Kindle 2.0)
