“Somewhere in the Middle East” is the current planned location for Hyder Consulting’s latest construction project: The World’s Tallest Red Block. This monstrosity, with a planned height of 5,250 feet, would be by far the world’s tallest structure. It seems to me that there must be some reason that the current tallest building in the world is only 1,671 feet, like safety or something. It also seems that an undisclosed location in the Middle East is not the best place in the world to try and build a 5,250 foot tall building. It seems to run the elevated risk of becoming a 0 foot tall building. I think that they would be better off building such a tower in a friendlier place, such as Canada. In Canada, the building would be primarily used as a tourist trap. Just think about it: the elevator to the mile-high club. Unfortunately, I don’t think anybody would be doing the “Alabama Crab Dangle” in a Canadian-built structure. I suppose we’d have to settle for the “Manitoba… uhh… Manatee?”

I think it’s location in the middle east shouldn’t be questioned, it’s not an area entirely swamped by war, for example the arab emirates are a wealthy and rather safe country- already hosting many of the world’s tallest buildings.
On another note I don’t think this should be built at all, there’s no need for a 1,600metre building, it’s sheerly a waste of money and resources.
The building would be taller than many mountains, for example Ben nevis would be over 200 metres lower than it.
Building this is unecerssary and would be an eye saw.
It’s not needed and shouldn’t be built; there are far more useful things to spend money on.
(I’ll just add that if this building was in a temperate zone ,like Germany or northern China, the roof would have a permanent snow cap. Some food for thought on how much concrete and steel is wasted in reaching a height where that is possible.)

Ooh, an mile ligh block of stone. Like we really neede one of those. I wish I could have been at the meeting where someone preposed this idea. It’s just stupid! I would build something that actually had worth like I don’t know, anything!!! Build a giant solar panel, or a huge farm. Send the constrution money into R&D and discover cures for dieseases! I don’t know. But if someone has enough money to build a mile high block of stone and will actually build one, they need to build a mental institution.

how fast would the elevators go. like a long time to reach the top, ha. and what would it say next to the elevator door..”in case of fire, take the..” whata hell. one day they will get so tall that they wont make anything else cause the buildings will use up all the material and the planes are gonna have to go around them.

I think that we should all dare these people to build the building. It is actually kind of funny, however, I deem the project nearly impossible to IMPOSSIBLE. The reason is that the buidings width and depth would need to be at least half of the planned height since it is sooooo tall. I also tend to agree with Alice here because she has a point of buildings bending as the Earth turns. All in all the location really does not matter, the building would still be a back-breaker and a waste of money in the long run no matter where you put it in the world.

I think this structure is highly unlikely to be built or even being considered. considering how the Kalifur turned out(high vacancy) it would take more than just wealth to build a tower like this and the only people i can see building something like this in the near future(20-50 years from now) would be the Chinese
